Do you think there is a serious lack of respect in public schools?
I am wondering because a ton of documentaries on issues facing public schools tend to blame the teachers, but I think the administration is also to blame. Teachers not only have to educate the students, it seems like some parents actually expect the teachers to raise their children. It seems like there is very little discipline in regards to the students. At my highschool, which is located in middle class small town america, the teachers had to have an assembly to tell the students that they could not fly their gang colors or swastikas at school. Another assembly dealt with teaching students that it is illegal and wrong to make fake facebook accounts to harrass your classmates. One girl was jumped in the bathroom by girls after being bullied, as a result the offenders were given 3 days of detention as "punishment". All these kids could say was "what about my freedom of speech" since when the freedom of speech and expression include the right to spread lies about your peers and physically harm them? Why is crap like this even allowed in school? Look at bigger cities like detroit where 1/2 the students are already in and out of jail. Why won't schools throw these troublemakers out and let them deal with a place called jail, which is where many kids that display such behavior end up. Do these kids parents even care? Are they too busy complaining that all the teachers are doing a poor job raising their kids?
